Students Against Dress Codes in School

Welcome to the SADCS web site.  If you are a student in middle or high school, and are against dress codes in your school, you've come to the right place.  If you are a teacher, principle, school official, or any other supporter of the dress code, you are also welcomed here also.  But be warned! This site is not illegal.  It is covered in part of the first amendment, the freedom of expression.

A few things...

First, we know dress codes are made for our safety and such, but in some cases the school districts are going to far.  We see the importance of a dress code, but we do not see the point of some of the rules.  For example, girls wearing spaghetti strap/tank top shirts and short shorts.  How is that dangerous?  I mean, in some cases it may not be the prettiest sight, but live with it!  Secondly, now hats or sunglasses on campus.  What am I going to do?  Stab someone with my sunglasses?  Beat them to death with my hat?  Maybe you see my point now.  I like wearing a hat and sunglasses.  For one, it looks cool and is a style.  For two, on very sunny days (which we have had a lot of lately) they keep the sun off your face and eyes.  I can understand not wearing them in the classroom, but we are not allowed to have them on campus AT ALL!  Lastly, guys tucking in their shirts.  I think we can compromise on this one.  If the shirts are past their finger tips, then tuck 'em in.  If they are shorter, then they should be allowed to be out.  I don't think I could hide a gun under my shirt, it would be pretty obvious if I tried.  Even if I tuck my shirt in, if  I was determined to get a gun in, all I would have to do is put the gun in my shirt and then tuck it in.  It wouldn't be any different.  The school's are using these school shootings as a reason to force us to look the way they want us too.  Which violates again, the first amendment right or freedom of expression.

This statement is based on New Hanover County School District's dress code policy and may not apply to all dress codes.
